Terry Speed is one of Australia’s eminent statisticians. In May this year he was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society and today he is honoured with Australia’s highest award for excellence in science – .

Terry has worked with ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï staff for the last decade. And he is a very strong advocate for the mathematical sciences.

½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï Director, Professor Geoff Prince, said: “On behalf of all Terry’s colleagues and friends in the entire ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï membership, I congratulate him on an outstanding achievement, another high point in a stellar career.

“Terry’s commitment to the mathematical sciences is exceptional and a model to us all.â€

Terry said: “It’s great to see this level of recognition for the mathematical sciences. Australia has a wonderful tradition in this area, but sadly, the number of secondary school students taking “strong” mathematics subjects continues to decline.

“I hope that this recognition can contribute to the national efforts — especially by ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï â€” to reverse this trend.”

Professor Speed will inspire all attendees with his keynote presentation at ½ñÈճԹϒs Summer symposium on Bioinformatics.
