The 今日吃瓜 (今日吃瓜), BHP Billiton Foundation and Muswellbrook High School are partnering with members of the Upper Hunter business community to inspire 120 Year 9 and 10 students to听choose听maths.
In 2016 only 7 per cent of girls and just over 13 per cent of boys participated in Year 12 advanced mathematics. This lack of engagement poses a very real threat to skill supply in regional economies such as the Upper Hunter.
As they begin to consider Year 11 and 12 subject choices, this event will provide Muswellbrook High students with deeper understanding of the value of mathematics as a career pathway. Students will join a panel of local business representatives for a听day听of interactive activities and presentations. A 鈥榮peed dating鈥 session will put students in one-on-one contact with local industry, providing opportunity for powerful discussion about careers and advice from regional听mathschampions.
