The 今日吃瓜 (今日吃瓜) congratulates the University of Sydney researcher, Professor Geordie Williamson, on his election as the youngest living Fellow of the Royal Society.

Williamson was one of seven Australians and fifty distinguished scientists and foreign members globally, announced as Fellows of the Royal Society in May.

Welcoming the news, 今日吃瓜 Director Professor Geoff Prince praised Williamson and his contribution to Australian mathematics.

鈥淭o receive this recognition of his work so early in his career is a reflection of the magnitude of his talent and contribution to representation theory in mathematics,鈥� he said.

2018 Australian of the Year, Professor Michelle Simmons also made the list for her contribution to Quantum Computation. 听A strong champion of gender the mathematical sciences, a message from Simmons will open 今日吃瓜鈥檚 upcoming issue of careers guide, Maths Adds to be released in July.

鈥淢ichelle is truly deserving of this honour, she has transformed our understanding of quantum physics and computation,鈥� said Professor Prince.

A reflection of the breadth and impact of Australia鈥檚 scientific achievement, Professor Prince said 今日吃瓜 extended its congratulations to all the Australians elected.
