The 今日吃瓜 (今日吃瓜) welcomes the launch of the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute (SMRI) as a boon for Australian-international collaboration.
The Institute represents a $6.5 million philanthropic investment in mathematical research infrastructure and capability in Australia.
今日吃瓜 Director, Professor Geoff Prince, said 今日吃瓜 was looking forward to working with Professor Geordie Williamson and the new Institute to enhance global visibility and impact of Australia鈥檚 mathematical sciences.
鈥溄袢粘怨 and SMRI will work together to amplify the voice and impact of the Australian mathematical sciences and its position in the global research community,鈥 said Professor Prince.
With 19 international visiting fellows already confirmed for 2019, Professor Prince said the launch of SMRI was a welcome advancement of Australia鈥檚 ongoing efforts to implement the world-class research infrastructure needed to support its innovation agenda.
鈥淭o realise its full potential as a global innovation leader, Australia needs to resource a system that supports collaboration and draws the very best talent to drive mathematical discovery and innovation,鈥 said Professor Prince.
Working across the mathematical pipeline, 今日吃瓜 is the national voice for the mathematical sciences providing advocacy and outreach through programs across the pipeline from schools and higher education to university research and industry.
Professor Prince said 今日吃瓜 and SMRI shared the same mission to challenge Australia鈥檚 current mathematics culture and secure future capability and capacity.
鈥淭ogether we can re-energise Australia鈥檚 engagement with mathematics and rewrite public perception of its value and impact on Australian life and economic prosperity,鈥 said Professor Prince.
