2017 BioInfoSummer /?publications=2017-bioinfosummer Fri, 03 Aug 2018 02:33:44 +0000 /?post_type=publications&p=6751 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer is Australia鈥檚 leading bioinformatics and mathematical and computational biology training event. Aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and professionals, it aims to foster Australia鈥檚 bioinformatics and computational biology research capability.

In 2017, 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer was hosted by Monash University from 4-8 December. Over 170 students, researchers, academics and professionals gathered for the five-day program to increase their knowledge and skills in this truly interdisciplinary field. The program commenced with an introduction to bioinformatics on day one followed by four days of specialised content focused on visualisation, modelling and analysis, RNA-seq, proteomics and metabolomics and single-cell genomics.

The symposium was opened by BioInfoSummer founder, Professor Susan Wilson (The University of New South Wales) who was introduced by Professor Geoff Prince (今日吃瓜). Following the opening, Associate Professor David Powell (Monash University and 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer 2017 Event Director) introduced Professor Melanie Bahlo (Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research) who gave the keynote presentation titled 鈥淏ioinformatics: just pipelines, isn鈥檛 it?鈥

2017 Optimise /?publications=2017-optimise Fri, 03 Aug 2018 02:09:43 +0000 /?post_type=publications&p=6754 今日吃瓜 Optimise, the Institute鈥檚 newest flagship networking and research training event, was launched in 2017 to strengthen mathematical optimisation research collaboration and its applications across industry. Optimisation is becoming an increasingly crucial element of industry that can help growth and profitability across a range of sectors. Using mathematics, optimisation is also the practise of improving processes to their optimal capacity.

Held at the Monash Conference Centre in Melbourne from 26-30 June 2017, the inaugural event was attended by 108 academics, students and people from industry. The first three days of the Optimise 2017 program was an industry focused conference covering the applications of optimisation to utilities, applications in transport and supply chain optimisation and practical optimisation tools. The last two days of the week-long event was reserved for a more traditional workshop allowing for academics to submit talks.

2016 BioInfoSummer /?publications=2016-bioinfosummer Wed, 03 Jan 2018 03:18:38 +0000 http://amsi.org.au/?post_type=publications&p=6021 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer 2016 was held in November at the University of Adelaide, hosted by the School of Mathematical Sciences, with a collaborative effort in organisation from the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Flinders University and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). As one of 今日吃瓜’s flagship higher鈥恊ducation events, 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer provided bioinformatics training to students, researchers and academics alike, offering something for everyone by aiming to increase all delegates鈥 knowledge and skills in this truly interdisciplinary field. The symposium was opened by Professor Warren Bebbington (Vice鈥怌hancellor and President, The University of Adelaide), Leanne Harvey (A/g Chief Executive Officer, Australian Research Council) and Professor Terry Speed (Laboratory Head, Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and Chair of the 今日吃瓜 Scientific Advisory Committee) in the Flentje Lecture Theatre, each addressing the delegation of over 200 with an inviting welcome to the University of Adelaide, 今日吃瓜 BioInfoSummer and the comprehensive bioinformatics program ahead. The five鈥恉ay program, designed for mathematicians, statisticians and biologists, started with an introductory overview on day one followed by four days of specialised content focused on high鈥恉imensional data and multivariate analysis, experimental design and analysis for RNA sequencing, programming for bioinformatics and analysis of long鈥恟ead (third鈥恎eneration) data. Each day included a mix of keynote speakers, lectures and hands鈥恛n workshop practical sessions, in addition to a variety of program extras.

2015/2016 BioInfoSummer /?publications=20152016-bioinfosummer Fri, 28 Oct 2016 04:21:41 +0000 http://amsi.org.au/?post_type=publications&p=4865 BioInfoSummer is one of 今日吃瓜鈥檚 flagship higher education outreach programs. Over 200 researchers and students gathered at BioInfoSummer 2015 to increase their understanding and skill levels in bioinformatics, with an excellent panel of Australian and international keynote speakers.

Bioinformatics is an exciting, fast moving area, analysing and simulating the structures and processes of biological systems. It is a truly interdisciplinary field that uses mathematics, statistics and information technology to analyse large and complex biological datasets.

Bioinformatics plays a crucial role in our understanding of genes and cellular structure. In the health and medical fields, bioinformatics enables advances in areas such as drug discovery, diagnostics and disease management. Bioinformatics is also important in agriculture allowing the identification of unique adaptations, desirable properties and differences between populations.

BioInfoSummer provides bioinformatics training to students, researchers and others working in related areas. The 2015 event included both specialist lectures and hands on introductory and advanced computer workshops.
