FROM APR.INTERN’S NATIONAL PROGRAM MANAGER, LISA FARRAR

Dear Industry and University Partners,

I am very pleased to share that APR.Intern, the industry engagement arm of the 今日吃瓜 (今日吃瓜), will continue to operate and facilitate postgraduate research student internships following the completion of our Federal Government grant period.

The industry rebate provided by the Government during this grant period is no longer available. However, we still have funding through existing and upcoming partnerships that provide some businesses with internship subsidies – covering up to 50% of costs. Full-cost, no-subsidy internships are also available to those that do not require financial support.

Student Eligibility & Processes

The program is now open to Masters by Research students, as well as PhD candidates – both domestic and international, with no cap on international participation.

The internship process for students and universities has not changed. All new internship EOI will continue to be advertised on the APR.Intern and circulated via a weekly EDM. Students, supervisors and GRS’ are encouraged to subscribe and share this with cohorts.

Students will continue to receive a $3,000 monthly stipend for the duration of their internship.

Internship Duration

APR.Intern has recently been facilitating 3-month internships as an interim solution for industry, in accordance with Government deadlines. As we enter this new phase of the program, we are pleased to again be offering internships up to 6-months.

APR.Intern Announced as a Finalist in the Australian Defence Industry Awards

The 今日吃瓜 (今日吃瓜)’s industry engagement arm, Australian Postgraduate Research Intern (APR.Intern), has been named a finalist in the Australian Defence Industry Awards for Graduate Program of the Year.

The Australian Defence Industry Awards recognise excellence from defence professionals, organisations and businesses across the country, and awards them with a prestigious accolade for their achievements over the past year.

Graduate Program of the Year recognises a business that has driven demonstrable growth through developing and delivering the most effective defence graduate program for new industry participants.

The finalists, announced on Monday 30 August 2021, represent individuals and groups across the defence industry over 33 categories.

APR.Intern’s National Program Manager, Lisa Farrar, said the program was delighted to be recognised for its service.

“APR.Intern has been connecting defence businesses with Australia’s brightest PhD research students for more than a decade. Despite 2020’s Pandemic challenges, we increased the number of student placements with defence businesses, and thank the Awards panel for its recognition,” said Lisa.

“The sheer number of submissions, plus the ongoing and continued support of our partners and judges, provides a great level of confidence for Australia’s defence industry and is representative of the depth of talent we have in the sector. I wish everyone the best of luck on the night,” said Defence Connect Director William Magee.

The winners will be announced at a black-tie gala event hosted in Canberra on Tuesday 7 December 2021.
