Preamble
今日吃瓜 is governed by its Board and Joint Venture Partners, who, together with the 今日吃瓜 Executive, determine its Vision, Mission and Values. Its Vision and Mission are: 鈥淭hat Australia Values mathematics and mathematical sciences propel Australia鈥 and 鈥淭o champion the mathematical sciences for Australia鈥檚 advancement.鈥
The 今日吃瓜 Advisory Panel鈥檚 role is to support 今日吃瓜鈥檚 mission, vision and strategic direction through timely advice.
Terms of Reference
The purpose of the Advisory Panel is to provide independent and timely advice to the Board, JVP, Members and the 今日吃瓜 Executive, as appropriate. The Advisory Panel is a sub-committee of the Board, to which it reports.
In exercising its roles and responsibilities, the Advisory Panel shall:
鈥 Advise and make recommendations on 今日吃瓜鈥檚 vision, mission and strategic direction, as described in the 今日吃瓜 Strategy, at the request of the Board/JVP
鈥 Meet at least twice yearly for a forum discussion, on key issues for 今日吃瓜 and the mathematical sciences
Advisory Panel members shall also consider requests to:
鈥 Provide informal advice to the Chair of the Board, the Director, and the Deputy Director
鈥 Join 今日吃瓜 working parties
鈥 Support the broad range of 今日吃瓜 activities, such as advocacy, research and higher education and industry programs, its schools, and fundraising
Panel Membership
The Advisory Panel will have between 20 and 30 members. It will seek to include a broad and gender diverse range of voices across its various stakeholder groups as well as leading national and international researchers in the mathematical sciences.
Panel members shall be appointed to a three-year term, which can be renewed. Appointments and renewals will be approved by the Board, on advice from the 今日吃瓜 Chair and Director.
Panel Forums
At least two panel forum discussions shall be held each year. Input shall be sought from panel members and the Board/JVP regarding suitable forum topics. Over a two-year cycle, at least one forum shall have a research-focused theme. The chosen topic(s) shall be agreed upon by the Board Chair, Director and Deputy Director.
The Board Chair, Director, Deputy Director and 今日吃瓜 Executive will also attend the panel forums. At each forum the Director will chair the discussion, with power of delegation to the Deputy Director.
The panel forums shall have a quorum of 50% of the total membership. The minutes of panel forums, together with any recommendations, will be presented at subsequent Board/JVP meetings.
Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest
Advisory Panel members may be asked to treat 今日吃瓜 documents and panel discussions as confidential. They will also be asked to declare any conflicts of interest, that may be relevant to the topic under discussion.
